Writing

Writing

I’m sensitive to my audience and tailor my voice to the project. Whether writing articles, blogs, product descriptions, grants, press releases, or whatever else you can throw at me, I do it with panache, clarity, and within word count. I understand the different concerns when publishing in newspapers and magazines and for the web (including keywords and search engine optimization).

Specialties include:

  • Reporting news, television, and food criticism
  • Corporate copy, including marketing, PR, and branding
  • Nonprofit development, outreach, and PR
  • Search engine and social media optimization
  • Creative copy, such as short stories, poetry, and speeches and radio stories
  • Resumes

Some recent projects include:

The Earlham Word: the weekly newspaper of Earlham College. Introduced faculty to students through profiles, covered women’s volleyball, wrote food and movie reviews.

stripes39Stripes39: content creation for private contracts. Journalistic articles on a variety of topics for a web audience. Very heavily focused on education–exploring the development of online degree programs for public and private institutions with a variety of course offerings. Also several news pieces about legislation and trends in public opinion.

Facing the FutureFacing the Future: education company focused on sustainability and global issues. I wrote over 25 chapter endcaps for a highschool-level textbook covering social studies with a focus on sustainability and global issues.

“We hired Jocelyn to help us turn first-person interview into nonfiction stories.  Her clever, creative writing style made the stories very interesting and highly readable. Jocelyn has strong communication skills.  Obviously she’s a good writer; she also communicates well verbally.  That makes project facilitation easy.  She understands the big picture, she asks good clarifying questions, and she follows through.” -Laura Skelton, Facing the Future.
